3) Donald Trump is unfit to be commander in chief of the American armed forces.

Could anyone imagine the situation in Ukraine currently if Donald Trump was still President. Does anyone believe Trump when he says, “Putin would never have invaded if I were President”. Ukraine is the country that Trump withheld military aid in an attempt to shake down some dirt on Biden from Ukraine’s President Zelensky. Biden galvanized a NATO response to Russian aggression in Ukraine while Trump did not even believe in NATO. Since Russia invaded Ukraine two additional members have joined, Finland and Sweden.

Closer to home, which is more remarkable, that 10 former defense secretaries joined together to write an opinion piece in the Washington Post or that 10 former defense secretaries felt it necessary to write this opinion piece? 3) Donald Trump is unfit to be commander in chief of the American armed forces.

How could any service man or woman be expected to risk their life and future for a man who would mock a prisoner of war held captive for years? A person who does not honor the family of a fallen American hero regardless of politics or religion should never be considered the leader of our military. That a fellow American would disrespect any Gold Star family is unacceptable. As Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said in reference to Donald Trump’s comments of the Khizr Khan convention speech, “The problem is, ‘unacceptable’ doesn’t even begin to describe it.”

Should the most powerful forces on earth be entrusted to a man who does not know what the nuclear triad is? Donald Trump referred to Marco Rubio as “Little Marco” and even “Little Marco” knew the answer to that question.

Donald Trump has said that NATO is obsolete and he would have no concern in disbanding it. This as well as his admiration and respect for Vladimir Putin’s leadership indicate Donald Trump’s gap in knowledge and faulty moral compass would prove to be insurmountable impediments to a functional Trump presidency.

It is quite troubling to see Donald Trump insist that the military would do what he would tell them to do in reference to the illegal and immoral use of force.

In the event one might think this is baseless, partisan rhetoric, please review the opinion of fifty individuals who have all served in senior national security and/or foreign policy positions in Republican Administrations, from Richard Nixon to George W. Bush.
