10. Donald Trump is a misogynist and cannot respectfully represent half of the nation’s population.
In 2013 Donald Trump tweeted, “26,000 unreported sexual assaults in the military – only 238 convictions. What did these geniuses expect when they put men & women together?” When asked to comment about that tweet at the September 7, 2016 “commander-in-chief forum” Donald Trump replied, “Well, it is – it is- it is a correct tweet. There are many people who think that that’s absolutely correct.” Donald Trump’s opinion is that when men and women are put together it is basic common sense that the guys are going to sexually assault the gals.
There should be no doubt with dozens of documented misogynist comments over more than the last twenty years. Many thanks to the UK Telegraph for having compiled an extensive collection of Donald Trump misogynist comments.
In his marriage, Donald Trump has failed twice. Does he lack judgment when it comes to choosing a life partner, or does he just have difficulty getting along with women? Every man as well as every woman should question whether Donald Trump should be the nation’s decider-in-chief, Mr. The-Buck-Stops-Here.
9. Donald Trump is the risk-taking King of Heads-I-Win-Tails-You-Lose.
Trump defines himself as a winner, always a winner, despite the four of his companies that filed for bankruptcy. He is very quick to point out that he himself has not filed for bankruptcy, in fact he says that he is “very, very rich.”
Isn’t it ironic that Donald Trump milks the fears of the disenfranchised for votes. As Donald himself says, he did very well with these bankruptcies. And the people who invested with him and worked with him did not do nearly as well.
Donald Trump made a point of challenging Barack Obama’s birthplace and citizenship. Even presented with a birth certificate he challenged the legitimacy of the document. And Donald Trump insists that only with his leadership can we “Make America Great Again”.
First, it is a fact that Barack Obama is an American born in Hawaii. Secondly, Barack Obama has done remarkably well as President given the bus-in-the-ditch Great Recession he was handed by his predecessor. In the last three months of the Bush administration and Obama’s first three months, the American economy lost nearly 4.5 million jobs. The Obama administration has successfully righted the economy with the largest growth in employment since the Clinton presidency, all while implementing the most significant social legislation in decades.
(Bill Clinton: 22.5 million new jobs / 8 years, George Bush: 2 million new jobs / 8 years, Barack Obama: 9.5 million new jobs / 7.5 years, which includes those needed to just break even from the 5 million jobs lost in his first year) For detailed monthly numbers see the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
8. Donald Trump vows to “Make America Great Again” but in actuality, he’s just another chiseling corporate taxpayer.
It is obvious that Donald Trump has something to hide in not releasing his tax returns, contrary to all previous presidential candidates in modern times. Given his meager charitable contributions, one would suspect that Trump’s income does not match his braggadocio. As we all know, charitable contributions can only be deducted against reported income. Also given Donald Trump’s proven meager association with the truth, his calls to, “Trust me,” ring rather hollow.
7. Donald Trump as President would seriously weaken if not destroy several of the Founding Fathers’ key principles, such as freedom of religion and freedom of the press.
That a presidential candidate would suggest a question of one’s religion should be a factor on an application for immigration to this country shows a complete disregard for the founding principles of our nation and the United States Constitution. Religious freedom is a fundamental right in America.
Donald Trump has already said that as president he plans to sharply rein in the media and make it easier to sue for libel and slander. For more than two hundred years the United States has relied upon a free press to maintain an ever-evolving democracy, an informed citizenry, and the freedom of association and dissenting opinion.
6. Donald Trump’s candidacy consists of outrageous and outlandish sound bites completely devoid of rational policies and plans.
Does anyone actually believe that Donald Trump has thought through his stated goal of deporting eleven million illegal aliens? He makes a forceful point as long as no one thinks about the people, the process, the law, the economic repercussions, and many other key factors and consequences that a true leader would consider before opening his/her mouth.
Trump’s comments on building the absolute best wall and having Mexico pay for it is another example of pure sound and absolutely no logic. Put simply, Mexico will not pay for Donald’s wall. Does Trump have any analysis that his wall is an effective solution to border control and the most cost-efficient? His arguments are an insult to the current Border Patrol, Americans doing a difficult job every day and funded at the level deemed appropriate by the Republican Congress.
5. Donald Trump’s rude, crude ignorance suggests the more accurate but unworkable slogan “Make America a Laughingstock.”
As Colin Powell says, “Trump is a national disgrace and an international pariah.”
4. Donald Trump promises to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with something beautiful.
The Affordable Care Act has with minimal disruption met target timelines to accomplish many of its intended goals. It has insured twenty million uninsured, half of the uninsured population, left employer-based health insurance in place, maintained competitive public and private health insurance, and reduced the rate of inflation of health care costs. This reduction in the rate of growth has brought the cost of the Affordable Health Care Act below the costs projected in the 2010 legislation
As many have been quick to point out, there have been a number of problems and many problems remain, not least of which is the other half of the remaining uninsured.
Donald Trump shows a fundamental lack of understanding of how things work in his simplistic critique of the Affordable Health Care Act and how his replacement would work better. Although Trump argues that education should be local and state-based, he does not believe that something as critical as health care should be. He plans to eliminate the “rings” around the states and by allowing national competition everything would be just “beautiful”.
Health care for the nation, providing and paying for it in a diverse and geographically disbursed population is complicated. There are no calls to make, or better deals to negotiate, to produce more affordable health care and Donald Trump’s planned solution is just another of his popular sound bites backed by a vacant policy.
A history of political intransigence has created the highest percentage of national product devoted to health care, twice the average of developed nations while being near the bottom of percentage of the population covered by health insurance. The Obama administration has been the only administration to make any meaningful progress with health care and in making America healthy as a nation. Going back to continued political intransigence and wishful thinking will not make everything beautiful. See FAQ How Does American Health Care Compare for a snapshot of cost versus several health-related metrics.
3. Donald Trump is unfit to be commander in chief of the American armed forces.
How could any serviceman or woman be expected to risk their life and future for a man who would mock a veteran prisoner of war held captive for years? A person who does not honor the family of a fallen American hero regardless of politics or religion should never be considered the leader of our military. That a fellow American would disrespect any Gold Star family is unacceptable. In reference to Donald Trump’s negative comments about the Khizr Khan convention speech, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said, “The problem is, ‘unacceptable’ doesn’t even begin to describe it.”
Should the most powerful forces on earth be entrusted to a man who does not know what the nuclear triad is? Donald Trump referred to Marco Rubio as “Little Marco” and even “Little Marco” knew the answer to that question.
Donald Trump has said that NATO is obsolete and he would have no concern in disbanding the organization. This as well as his expressed admiration and respect for Vladimir Putin’s leadership indicate that Donald Trump’s gap in knowledge and faulty moral compass would prove to be insurmountable impediments to a functional Trump presidency.
Most hideous, though, is Donald Trump’s insistence that the military would do what he would tell them to do in reference to the illegal and immoral use of force.
In the event one might think this is baseless, biased, partisan rhetoric, please review the open letter signed by fifty individuals who have all served in senior national security and/or foreign policy positions in Republican Administrations, from Richard Nixon to George W. Bush.
2. Donald Trump’s signature tagline is “You’re Fired.”
1. Donald Trump has absolutely no, zero, nada relevant experience.
Ronald Reagan is alternately lionized for being the father of modern conservative economics, winning the cold war and his famous West Berlin speech, “Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall,” and pilloried for being a grade-b actor turned president. The undisputed truth is that Ronald Reagan was Governor of California for eight years before he was elected President of the United States.
There is a huge difference between profitably managing a few prime real estate properties and managing a government responsible for one of the largest economies in the world. The American and global economies are still recovering from the Great Recession the Obama administration inherited in 2009 and despite Donald Trump’s negative view the American economy has been leading this recovery. Is now the time when the American voter should decide to elect the most unqualified candidate in American history?
